I feel so limited only being able to buy SanDisk Cruzer flash drives
because they are the only one I know of that will work with my old
Windows 98SE computer.

What other brand of thumb drives can I buy and where can I obtain the
drivers to use them?

I use a generic driver and it works with most USB drives. The driver is
called JDUSBMS. If you can't find it I have a copy at
<http://phelum.net.au/files/USB_Mass_Storage.zip>.
