Specifically- My dad's ancient K6-300 running Win 95. MOBO is a M-Tech
R581 A, with SiS 5591 chipset, has all the SiS drivers for AGP and IDE.
He had a PS/2 Microsoft Wheel mouse with the intellimouse software. I
wanted to install a Logitech Mouseman Wheel for him, better ergonomics
etc. I did the Uninstall Software option and removed Intellimouse. Also
removed the mouse from System. Shut down. Removed MS mouse, plugged in
Logitech Mouse, started PC. Mouse works, except for the wheel. Installed
Logitech Mouseware 7.21. Rebooted. Computer halted during boot sequence.
Rebooted in Safe mode. In system is one device under Mouse "PS/2 type
mouse port", but no mouse. Deleting and rebooting does no good.
Installing Logitech Mouseware 9.4x also is useless. In safe mode, under
Control Panel/Mouse most configuration options for the Mouseware are
greyed out, and Device is listed as "Pointing device on unknown port".
1) Mouse works but is not visible with no Logitech software installed.
2) After removing Logitech software, normal boot process restored.
I am guessing that the MS uninstall did not remove some component of the
Intellimouse software, but I cannot figure it out. I also wonder about
my PS/2 port, seems to have some issues.
Anyone?
