Current version is 3.0 and it's UGLY!
P.S. Does anyone know where to get a copy of MSDos 5.0? My disks are bad and
I can't install from my 6.0 upgrade. Thx!
Also if you do not mind using DOS 7 there is a way to retrieve it from
windows 95. Again, use google....

The latest version that will work with 95 is IE5.5sp2
You can get it from various sources like last year's ISP CDs (AOL, etc.),
and probably the latest Income Tax packages (if they have file-by-Internet).
Here's my latest list:
-------
The pay-for-it method:
IE 5.5 SP2 on CD for $2.99
http://www.on-disk.com/ie55sp2.html
-------
The 84MB downloaded "self-extracting archive" method:
Assorted IE versions:
http://cws.internet.com/ie.html
http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit
ftp://ftp.skynet.be/mirror/microsoft.com/ie/
http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/microsoft/ie
http://www2.kansas.net/download.asp
IE 5.5 & 6.0 only:
http://www.it.utep.edu/wksupport/applications.html
No longer available here, but here's the old link:
http://helpdesk.uvic.ca/how-to/support/win95/msiexpl.html
After downloading, double-click on the 84MB file. It should
automatically create a new sub-folder under its current location
called "IE 5.5 SP2 Full", and auto-extract yet another 84MB of
CAB files and a few EXEs into it. To install, go into the new
sub-folder and run ie5setup.exe

The I-don't-know-if-it-works method:

In addition to MasterBlaster's list of IE 5.5 sources, you could consider
some other browsers:
OffByOne (fits on one floppy)
http://www.OffByOne.com
Mozilla (free plus regular updates)
www.mozilla.org
Opera (adware and pay versions available)
www.opera.com
Good stuff!

Actually, FireFox was my first try, but it won't work in Win95. Opera has
some cool features, but I just don't like it.
I'm running FireFox 0.8 on a Windows 95b machine, and it works perfectly!
What else was installed before you installed FireFox?
I just downloaded and attempted to install on a clean Win95B machine
yesterday without any luck.
What do you mean by "without any luck"? Is there a specific error message?

message?
I received an error that a file was missing. I didn't take note as I just
assumed that FireFox required some DLL that is installed with a later
version of IE or the OS.
I've got IE 5.5 installed now, so I'm happy.

You can download it from the evolt.org archive but it wouldn't install
for me after I spent quite some time getting it downloaded using my
slow dialup connection. I ended up following a link left by a
microsoft guru in here and got the on-disk full IE5.5sp2 CD for $3. It
installed without a problem and runs great for me.
Now they have another option. Internet Explorer 5.5sp2 is coming on
their "Win95 On-Pack".
Their page says "It contains several programs to bring the older
Windows 95 computer up to speed."
The on-pack contains Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2, DirectX 8.0a, Windows
media player 7.1, Windows 95 Y2K Update, Windows 95 OEM SR2 Update
(for Multifunction CardBus Cards Resolve several Plug and Play issues
with PC Cards), OpenOffice.org 1.0.3.1 (Legacy Build for Win 95),
Trillian 0.74, and ExtractNow.
The on-pack looks like the better great choice if you want to try Open
Office or get Media player 7.1 installed on Windows 95.

I had to reinstall Windows 95 and was shocked to find I it didn't have
any internet software after reinstalling. A techie friend burned
Internet Explorer on CD for me but I couldn't get it to install. I
found the "on-pack" while looking through newsgroups at work and
thought it was worth a try ( see:
http://on-disk.com/product_info.php/products_id/33 ).
Not only did I get the latest version of Internet Explorer for Windows
95 working on my PC, I also have Media Player 7.1 (although the PC
thinks it's 7.0), and Direct X8. The CD was definitely worth the
$4.00.
In addition it came with an Open Office legacy build. I had never
heard of it before but I'm liking it better than the Microsoft Office
I use at work and it has opened every Microsoft file I have tried so
far!

I tried to install Netscape 7.1, uninstalled IE3.x and Netscape 4, and
tried to install 7.1. For some reason, all I got was a splash screen...
Could someone send me the setup file for mozilla? Or is there a DOS/run
command that would allow me to put in the direct link to the setup file to
download it?
Thanks
