What is the easiest way to install several windows updates to machines
(95,98 and 2K)on a LAN? I have several updates dating back several months
and would like to find out the most efficient/reliable way to do it. Is it
as simple as making a batch file that would run each update in turn? If so,
would I just list them, or would I have to ensure that each had finished
installing before the next was run. How would I do this? Maybe there's a
tool that is designed for just this purpose? How is it done on BIG networks?
questions, questions, questions...

cheers,
Jo

You can download the updates from the Microsoft Download Center
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.asp) for
offline-installations. However, this still requires that the files are
run on the machine on which they have to be installed.

One solution is to dl the updates from the site Thorsten gave you, save them
all in a central location on one of your servers, dl the qchain.exe util
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q296/8/61.asp and
bat file, edit them to include the updates you want installed, then create a
script to run the updates when a workstation logs on. You'll have to create
separate sets for win9x and 2K, and assign which script to use depending on
what os the workstation is running (perhaps you could do so according to
user account - as long as the users use the same workstations every day)

Yes it does, I have contracted to a few companies that were successfully
using SMS with Win 95. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this??
