I recieved the following message while saving an image file in TIF
format under Paint Shop Pro,

Fatal Exception OE at 0028:000046A0 in VXD VMM(01) + 000036A0.

I am also using an older 16 bit program, Aldus Photostyler, which is not
avalible in 32 bit. In Photostyler the option button under (save as),
which allows you to specify LZW compression for a TIF file format is no
longer working. I cannot change the setting from compressed to no
compression. Programs saved in Photostyler are not compatable with Paint
Shop Pro, and likewise in the opposite order. I susspect a possible
video card, or related problem. I have a standard VGA monitor and, the
problem with GPF's and other crashes seems to occur more when set to
800x600 high color. Is there any way I can test the suspect components
in an effort to correct the constant faults and errors?

First a couple of questions. Have you been able to reproduce this error on
more than one occasion? Does it occur while using any other program?

Two things you might try.

1) Try reducing "Hardware Acceleration" in "Control
Panel|System|Performance|Graphics"
2) Try changing your video driver under "Control
Panel|Display|Settings|Change Display Type|Adapter Type" to "(Standard
Display Types)|Standard Display Adapter (VGA)"

If either, or both, of these get rid of the error you will need to either
update your video drivers or pick up a newer video card.

Hope this helps,

- Rob -

<BODY BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF">
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; First off, thanks for your input into this matter. To
answer the questions, first of all, yes, I seem to run into this error
or other related errors on an almost constant basis and in many different
programs. I have an unknown brand of video card [Flagpoint] which has an
S3 Trio 64 UV+ chip. I have located and installed the latest drivers available
from S3. The card has only one meg of video memory. I am in need of doing
high color graphics for use in classes at college. I cannot do the necessary
work for these classes without using 16 bit or 24 bit color. Reducing the
hardware acceleration does seem to help slightly but the errors still occur.
You can imagine how frustrating this is when I go to save a file that I
have been working on for quite a while and the whole thing is lost. I have
about come to the conclusion that replacing the card may be the only alternative.
