I have Win95 v4.00.05a on diskettes (Service Pack 1 included). After
installation the Update Information Tool told me that UPD010 (Printer Port
Update) was invalid, saying that I had version 4.00.503 of driver lpt.vxd
when it should be version 4.00.951 (Service Pack 1). Fine...I figured it
wasn't installed properly in the beginning because I cancelled the printer
installation routine during setup at the time. Anyways, I am now trying to
correct this.

I extracted lpt.vxd from diskette number 3. However, extraction of this
using the cabview powertoy didin't work the way I wanted. Right-clicking on
the this lpt.vxd file does not bring up a version tab so I don't know what
the version number is at all now. Update Information Tool also tells me that
version info is not available.

How can I properly extract lpt.vxd from diskette 3 to get the version info?
Why wasn't .951 installed in the beginning anyways? (all the other SP1
updates were). Do I need to use the EXTRACT tool instead of CABview method?

Better yet...if someone out there does have a properly functioning 4.00.951
version of lpt.vxd, could you email it to me?

Thanks in advance,

Thats just it...I did extract it first. But still, no version number was
available after extraction.

Thanks but I already lifted lpt.vxd 4.00.951 from my office PC today.
Incidentally, I had this problem on my office PC also but the it "went
away". I never intentionally installed the proper version so I'm not sure
howe I got it. Also, I extracted lpt.vxd from the win95cab files on my
office PC too, using CABview, to test out this problem at home with the lack
of a version number. The extraction at work went fine. The file was
extracted with a version tab. But...I is version 4.00.950, not 4.00.951. The
version I lifted from windows\system subdir to take home was OK though
(4.00.951). All very weird. Esp. sice my W95 diskettes are version 4.00.95a
and therefire by definition Service Release 1 and I should then have the
correct version.

Many questions arise from this...Thanks for your help. Hopefully you could
help me further with this puzzle?

Lpt.vxd 4.00.950 is the original Win95 version.
Lpt.vxd 4.00.951 is installed by Service Pack 1, when Win95 -> Win95a.
Never heard of diskettes 950a.
