Search for a file called "exit to dos.pif"
Highlight the file and hit alt-enter and click on the
Program tab Make sure that command line=c:\windows\command.com
make sure that this file is identical to one in your root drive

HEY HEY:

1. Click Start-Shutdown and select "Restart the Computer". When the message
"Starting Windows 95" appears hit the F8 key. A boot menu should appear,
select "Command Prompt Only". That should boot you from the HDU to a C:\
prompt. At the C:\ prompt type "ver" and hit <enter>. It should return
"Windows 95". If it returns "MS-DOS 6.xx" then you need to run sys.com.

2. If the system won't boot to C:\ then get out your Win95 Startup floppy
and boot to that. If you don't have a Startup Disk you can make one
(Control Panel-Add/Remove Software-Startup Disk). This will boot to the A:\
prompt. The file sys.com is on there so you can reload the boot files on
the HDU if you need to. (The Win95 Startup Disk utility kind of sucks,
since there's no CD-ROM or extended memory support.)

3. Win95 supposedly does not need autoexec.bat or config.sys to run. Try
disabling those two files by changing their extensions to .old. Reboot to
Windows, then try to select MS-DOS mode from the Shutdown menu. If that
hangs, then look in the root directory for autoexec.dos and config.dos, and
check them out for anything untoward. You might try disabling them too.

I hope this helps.

Quentin,

I checked my configuration and found my Command.com file in my
C:\ (root) directory and in My C:\Windows subdirectory. It wasn't contained
in my C:\Windows\Command subdirectory. See if it makes a difference having
them in these locations.

P.S. I almost freaked when I saw your last name!
