before you do anything about changing your swap file go here and follow
the instructions

http://www.creativelement.com/win95ann/win95ann6.html#03

of particular importance is to use nortons speed disk or ms defragment
on all your drives before and after you change the swap file.

Right Click My Computer
Click The Properties Context Sensitive Menu
(The Win95 System Tab Box Appears)
Click The Performance Tab
Click The Virtual Memory Button OR (Alt V)
Select The Option ("Let Me Select My Own Virtual Memory Settings)
(Select The Hard Disk Drop Down Menu Box and select the drive you wish to
contain your Windows swap file.)
Click O.K
(A dialog box then appears saying that "you have decided to manage the swap
file your self and that windows may not restart or run correctly, and
another heap of warning stuff. Just click O.K : I have done this many a
time and on many machines and have hasd no errors due to changing the path
of the swap file. If however you did, just change the option back to "Let
windows manage my Virtual memory settings.")
Thats it.

What is so hard going into conrol panel/system/performance/virtual memory/let me decide button and telling it
where you want the swapfile?
When windows gives you the message just let it have control back again,
but the place for the swap file will be changed.
