Problems Win95b vs. Sound Blaster AWE64 / SBAWE.VXD virtual driver:

I have upgraded my computer from a 166mhz MMX running Win95 to a Pentium II
300mhz running Win95b OSR. On both computers I have used the same SB64AWE
PnP soundcard.

After installing my soundcard/drivers I reboot my computer and during bootup
I am getting the message "Windows protection error". Now I have to remove
the file \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SBAWE.VXD, cause Win95 will not read that virtual
driver. On my old computer/WIN95 I didn´t see that problem.

Now I am running my SB64AWE/Win95b without the SBAWE.VXD driver, but
everything seems to go fine. In the Control Panel/System/Sound- Video- and
Gamescontrollere I am getting an "!" with "Creative AWE64 Wavetable MIDI
(AWE32 compatible) cause the SBAWE.VXD isn´t installed. No other conflicts
with device drivers.

Why can´t I use the SBAWE.VXD virtual driver ?
What is the driver used for - MIDI sound or what ?

My configuration is:

ASUS P2L97 motherboard with LX chipset
Intel Pentium II 300 mhz
Sound Blaster 64AWE PnP
2 Quantum Fireball
Matrox Mystique 4mb
Orchid Righteous 3Dfx
64 MB SDRam
Windows 95b OSR rel.
DirectX 5.0

Hope that somebody can help me !!
