Hi, is anybody out there? I would like to talk about issues with Microsoft
Disk Operating System (DOS) and applications for it. It might be that I
just can't see anyone else's posts in this group but could someone email me
direct if that's the case, please?

The group hasn't been very active for quite a while. But I listen,
maybe others do to. You certainly can't lose anything by posting
questions.

Yup, but then the problem is that I like to give answers and try to help
people out, where I can. But I will bear it in mind if I gat a query of my
own, then I'll defiantly post it. Thankyou for your reply, Tim.

The NG is not as active as others, due to the Win9*/Dos upgrades or
the use of Unix/Lionux systems were the answers are not found here....

Even finding applications for win95 are hard to find if you don;t
already have a 100 terabytes backup of such items.....

Most '98 runs on '95 anyways so there is more activity on '98
NGs....

I still use 4Dos/Win3.1 on 1 of my computers...this one
AAMOFact....no viruses or malware anywhere.....

Hi Bob,
You do realize that you've replied to me directly and not via
the newsgroup? Thanks anyway for the info. I also run Win 3.1 from a
combination of Floppy disk and pen-drive as my Fujitsu-Siemens SCENIC T
won't boot from a pen-drive, unfortunately, and need the floppy to boot and
load two DOS drivers (one for USB support and the other for the memory
drive). One of my favorite website is Dave's Interesting DOS Programs page
at:

http://www.opus.co.tt/dave/indexall.htm

..(which was where I got the USB drivers from) and another is Powerload's
Resource Page for Win3x at:

http://oldfiles.org.uk/lightspeed/main.html

..which is where I got a utility (patch) to enable me to run Win 3.1 on
top of DOS 7 which is a lot better being more compatible with more dos utils
than DOS 6.21. Thanks again for the information but, I looked through the
list of groups on "msnews.microsoft.com" and found no groups with dos in the
title except for "microsoft.public.win95.msdosapps" (non of the win98
groups have dos in them) and was advised by replies given in
"microsoft.public.basic.dos" (that deals with basic programming only - not
dos questions) that this was the group to post pure dos questions to.
Another group cited as being good for dos discussion was alt.msdos.batch.nt
but can't find which news server it's on and if you can use OE to view/reply
to it. Any help regarding getting on to a more appropriate NG in OE would
be appreciated. (P.S. I need the name of the newsserver and the group,
please.) Thanks again, there.
