When I boot up my computer, I get to the desktop, all the
icons line up, then my crash protector comes up with
a "Windows Explorer crash" box. This first happened after
my computer crashed when I tried to install a program
using the "Run" function - the crash box came up when I
tried to "browse" for the file to be executed.
The crash box gives me options to auto-fix the problem or
reboot - both seize the machine. I can move the box to
the side and continue to work, but the machine won't exit
properly.
Once, it came up without the crash box and everything
seemed fine - until I went on the "Start" menu, which
caused it to crash again.
One possible solution that comes to mind is to install the
latest service pack and hope that solves it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks...

Sorry that I forgot to mention that first time around -
it's the one that comes with McAfee's First Aid.
When I boot up, I get my desktop, all the icons show up,
then either the crash protector comes up or I get a blue
screen error. Whent the blue screen comes up, pressing a
key works MOST of the time, but I'm still left the with
crash protector box.
My machine is a Pentium II 266. I'll probably take this
in to the shop because I think I also need some added RAM
(I've got 32M and crash more than I'd like) and perhaps a
bit of cleaning up.
Still, if there are any fairly simple remedies for the
Explorer problem, I'd be greatly appreciative.
Thanks...
First Aid has a terrible reputation--I think it's as bad as Norton's
Crash Guard as far as causing problems such as crashes. I would
uninstall it plus get some more ram as you mentioned--64 mb is a good
amount with W95 now days.

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the info and suggestions! I'll try ditching
the First Aid and take it from there. (Frankly, I haven't
had much luck with that program. It always identifies
problems that I don't know I'm having...and misses the
ones I'm trying to fix.
Thanks again...
