Lots of files are in the recycle bin on Mom's computer. Windows won't start without
some of them, not even in Safe Mode. Is there a small utility that can restore the
files to their original places. It would need to fit onto a floppy disk. I
experimented and think it shouldn't be too hard to write, but I am checking so I
don't have to re-invent the wheel. There are more than 500 files in the recycled
directory that have been deleted, and the two hidden files desktop.ini and info. I
can find the recycled file information from these two files. It will take a LONG time
to restore the files by hand since there are so many.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Norton Utilities undelete utility can do this. It runs in Dos and is
included with the full package. Perhaps get a trial version.

did you make a start up disk. Maybe that might help you regain control of
your computer?

The newer version of Norton Utilities-UnErase will do exactly what you need.
We had one user blow away her entire C:\Windows folder because she thought
she was in the C:\Windows\Temp folder. It recovered all but two or three,
and they were not important. It took about four hours, though.
