I have a compaq 1540 armada. I have a display that has a black border
approx. 2"entirely around the active screen. This obviously limits my
display. I have gone into the control panel and the display but the
settings only have either 16 colors or monochrome and I cannot adust the
pixels because it is not lite up. I have run various diagnostic test from
Norton and PCworld and BCM but they give me no ideas of what's wrong with
the display or the sound. I have downloaded new drivers from compaq but
this still dosen't change the screen, pixel setting or the sound.

I have also lost any sound on my laptop Pentium 150 with 80 megs of ram.
Any suggestions?

You almost certainly have the wrong drivers and configuration, no matter what
you might think. It sounds like your computer is centering a 640x480 image
(standard 16 color VGA) in an 800 x 600 screen (or perhaps even a 1024 x 768
screen). It is probably not a hardware problem (although I can't say that
conclusively). Beyond that, I can't help much.

Go to the Compaq Downloadable page for your unit:

http://www.compaq.com/support/files/portables/us/2_50.html

It has all the drivers and more for your unit.
