Hey Mark,

I don't have an answer to your question about why they stay out there but you can change the settings and delete all the temporary cache files under VIEW, OPTIONS, ADVANCED,Temporary Internet files SETTINGS.

Hope this helps a little,

Oh no !
Just when I thought I'd figured out how to delete unwanted "stuff" from my disk (portable 700 meg) I've discovered another hiding place.

I did an Explorer search for cache* and was surprised to find 4 folders in my Windows/Temporary Internet Files folder. However, when I go to that directory, they don't show up. However, through the search, I can click on these folders, and discovered to my horror that each one contains HUNDREDS of files, some larger than 1 meg.
I even found reference to files that I've downloaded to my zip drive, which is what prompted my search. During downloads, I've noticed that once the download is finished, a small box appears telling me it's transferring the file from cacheX to it's final destination on my zip.

I've noticed that some files in these folders contain "Expires" dates. Some don't.
Some expired a long time ago.

Can someone please tell me (in simple terms) why these files exist past their expire dates and why some don't expire at all?

Obviously, a laptop  is not the place to store thousands of unwanted files.

Thanks
Mark Hill

Hi Mark,

It seems that if you upgrade your IE without clearing your Temporary
Internet Files folder, the files in them may not be marked for deletion
with the upgrade version. Files accumulated after the upgrade will delete
with the Empty Folder button, but not the old ones. After you manually
clean out those 4 caches, the Empty folder button in IE Properties,
Advanced, Settings should completely empty those 4 caches from then on.
BTW, it's normal not to see those 4 caches in the folder. You'll always
have to do a search for "cache" to see them.

Regards,
Marcy
