Video Codecs
The H.263 and H.261 codecs are supported for video. H.263 is always
preferred. The bit rate for this codec can vary from 6 to 125 KBps,
depending on network conditions. The platform supports both Quarter Common
Intermediate Format QCIF(176 x 144) and Common Intermediate Format CIF (352
x 288).

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnwxp/html/mediainrtcclient.asp

How do I tell to use CIF instead QCIF?. Because I'm running on a Local Lan
with 100% network quality all time and still RTC is using CIF, both web-cams
support CIF format and RTC MaxBitRate is set to maximum (1.000.000).
MaxAudioVideoBitRate

The MaxAudioVideoBitRate value is of type REG_DWORD and limits bandwidth
that RTC client applications can use for audio and video calls. If you do
not configure this policy setting, RTC client applications use as much
bandwidth as is available and necessary for audio and video calls.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/rtcclnt/rtc/how_to_enable_rtc_client_api_policies.asp

I set the registry MaxAudioVideoBitrate to 300.000 and still I can set on
the RTC MaxBitRate between 0 and 1.000.000. It should return False or an
exception!!!. Why?

Gustavo.

RTC API can always support receiving QCIF or CIF Formats but it will capture
only using QCIF. There is no way you can force RTC API to capture in CIF
format in the current version of the API.

Thanks Vishal,

What about the second question?

MaxAudioVideoBitRate

The MaxAudioVideoBitRate value is of type REG_DWORD and limits bandwidth
that RTC client applications can use for audio and video calls. If you do
not configure this policy setting, RTC client applications use as much
bandwidth as is available and necessary for audio and video calls.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/rtcclnt/rtc/how_to_enable_rtc_client_api_policies.asp

I set the registry MaxAudioVideoBitrate to 300.000 and still I can set on
the RTC MaxBitRate between 0 and 1.000.000. It should return False or an
exception!!!. Why?

Gustavo.

P.S.: Documentation tells that MaxAudioVideoBitrate and PortRange is a
value.
But if you look on your registry you will see for the current configuration
for RTC 1.3 PortRange is a key and not a value.
Then I guess then MaxAudioVideoBitrate also will be a key and the
documentation may be is not updated.
Anyway I put MaxAudioVideoBitrate in both places as key and value and it
didn't work.

The API put_MaxBitrate() call and the policy regkey MaxAudioVideoBitrate are
two independent control points. The regkey (which could potentially be set
by an IT Admin using GPO policy or logon policy) always overrides the value
set by the API.

Hello Franco,

Did you find a solution to your problem?

I have the same problem trying to improve the image quality for a
conferencing application based on RTC.

Thank you
Leo
