Getting the handle of the desktop

Hi ,

I am trying to get the handle to the desktop window, and use the handle for
sending messages

I am writing the following code , but the handle is different from what I
see using Spy++

HWND hDesktop = ::GetDesktopWindow() ;

// I want to get the handle of the Windows desktop
// but the handle is different from what I see using Spy++


::SendMessage(hDesktop, ..... );
