extended mapi functions in vb6?

i've been trying to locate some information on using extended mapi
functions in vb such as the new mail notification but the only info
i've found on entended mapi points to vc++. any info would be most
appreciated.

At present, there is no object layer or ActiveX that provides 100%
coverage of Extended MAPI. You would need to call the Extended MAPI
functions directly, which is a real bear in VB because of the complex
interface involving callbacks, embedded pointers in structures, etc. It
can be done, but it would require black-belt programming skills on your
part. Much too involved to explain, but if you were to go to
http://www.desaware.com and learn all of the black-belt techniques in
Appleman's books, you could do it.

Active Messaging/CDO provide a subset of Extended MAPI in an easy object
layer that is a no-brainer to use from VB.
