The Microsoft Windows Application Verifier (AppVerifier) examines executable
programs for common application quality issues. Running this tool on an
application aids a developer or tester in detecting issues dealing with
stability, security, and compatibility. The AppVerifier works by monitoring
an application's use of the operating system, i.e. the file system,
registry, memory, and APIs, while the application is being run. Once issues
are discovered through the AppVerifier, the tool guides developers on how to
fix these issues at the source code level.

For more info, see
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/appexperience/appverifier.asp. If you
have questions about appverifier, ask in
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.win32.programmer.tools.
Appverifier is being updated on a regular basis to account for recently
discovered compatibility issues, so check back often.

This is interesting! Unfortunately, the docs are unclear as to what OS it
works on . I tried to install it on my Win2K machine (SP2) and received an
error message that it requires at least Sp3. When I went to the docs page for
the app, however, it says it won't install aon anyting earlier than XP.

I'd rather not waste my time installing SP3 if this won't run on that.. can
anyone confirm that it runs on W2K SP3?

Well I read

"One of the basic requirements for using AppVerifier, however, is that you
must be installing it on Windows XP. AppVerifier won't install on Microsoft®
Windows® 2000"

That is typical for Microsoft. The above is NOT correct. I just installed it
without any problems on W2K Pro SP3.

Good for you! That's what I read too, at the MS site. But the installer says
Win2K SP3. So I took a chance - installed SP3 - and the app verifier installs
just fine.

Just proves two things:

1) Don't believe everyting t=you read, and
2) Be sceptical of Usenet answers.

Also proves that MS got you to agree to the licensing conditions of
service pack 3. Did you read it carefully?

Also typical of Microsoft are cluttered, confusing html pages. I found
those witches' words and abandoned my attempts to find the actual URL
which would cause AppVerifier to download. Can somebody please quote it?

Hah! I've heard that it's onerous, but I didn't read it. What's a guy to do? I
can't imagine that 2K SP3 has more info gathering in it than XP, and I will
need to install XP some day to test if nothing else..

None of the download links function. The URL above points to a page that
points to a page to download from, but it 404's.
