I cannot figure out which Discussion Group to turn to for help. I've posted
this in General Discussions, however, no one has replied as yet.

I have an emachine T3410 OS XP. I am a computer nitwit thus need help.

Apparently while in the control panel deleting superfluous software, I
inadvertely must have deleted the Multimedia Audio Controller. Consequently
I have no audio.

My speaker system has been checked and works but I cannot get audio through
my speakers from sites on the PC.

The day after I did this a wizard pops up each day telling me to put in a CD
- I do not have a CD.

In the General Discussion group the topic Multimedia Audio Controller is
listed, however the one person who specifically wrote about the same problem
I have received no replies. My post(s) have received no replies.

If there is a website I need to go to in order to fix this, can someone help
me please?

If I go the the emachine website, I have no idea what to look for, i.e.
drivers (which ones), would it indicate Audio or Multimedia Audio Controller
- something I'd click to reinstall this software?

Sorry if I'm trying the wrong group. I am just afraid to try anything at
this point that may further screw up my PC.

Thanks for any guidance you may provide.

Hi Joanne,
This worked for me, might be worth a try if u still stuck......
go to 'START' (bottom left of desktop, greenish button)
click on 'Help and Support'
on right hand side of this window, find 'Pick a Task"
(shud b option 3)
click on 'Undo changes to your pc with System Restore'
a calendar window shud appear with dates of programme software changes in
bold script on days........the trick here is to remember which day u deleted
your
audio by accident, choose the day before that and reset the computer -
unfortunately you will lose all programme software loaded after that date,
but u can
easily restore if needed.

Best of luck from sunny south africa,
Cheers, Mark.

This group is for programmers dealing with the DirectX SDK: (look at the
group's name: ...programmer.directx.sdk)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb219737(VS.85).aspx

I seems the problem has no relation to it. I'd ask in an appropriate group
instead.

I just figured out the fix! I had the same problems described here about
losing my "Multimedia Audio controller" so I downloaded a file from cnet, the
file name is :
WDM_A406.exe
...it's 17.87mb and it is a full self-installing application available from
Realtek.
After the driver was installed I still had no sound so I clicked the
speaker icon in the tray to open the "Play Control" panel, clicked "advanced"
and UNchecked the box beside "1 Digital Output Only" and voila! Sound came on
instantly & works perfectly! It took me a few days to find this fix for mine
but I think it will work for you.
...don't forget to UNcheck the "Digital Output Only" box in the
Play Control Panel > Advanced menu!
