Hi,

On every server in my network I've the following problem :
If I try to launch a program from the desktop or from the "program program
list" the system reply with the error "unable to run command"

If I logon to the servers using a terminal server session on a workstation
and I logon as the same administrator, I can launch every program without
any problem.

I installed today SP4 but no different results.

Who knows some answers ??

This sounds weird....
Which OS and SP is this? Is there anything in the EventLog?

Are you by any chance using RunAs? The only thing that I found is
the following KB article:

272472 - Runas Command Does Not Work with UPN Name
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;272472

Hi Vera,

The operating systems are :
Windows 2000 Server
Windows NT4

On the Windows 2000 servers is SP4 installed
On one Windows 2000 server which I use as a Terminal Application Server is
SP3 installed.
I've unistalled SP4 on this server because all the print jobs
have been delayed for several minutes (from 2 till 10 minutes) before the
printers started printing. After the removal of SP4 everything was as usual
except for the weird situation of course.

On the NT4 server is SP6 installed. This server will be upgraded (read
formatted) the next coming month.

In the eventlogs is nothing abnormal to find.

All my servers are synchronised. Their is only one "time server".
After rebooting the server I can work the first +- 2 minutes as
administrator like their is no problem.
I've been monitoring the process which are launched after a while but this
stays the same.
If the "error" is part of a subprocess I can't detect because I don't know
how to do this.

I've read the article mentionned by you but this is not the case.

So today I'm still searching for answers.

Kurt

This is getting stranger and stranger...
Are you using the local Administrator account on these servers? If
yes, I'm out of ideas :-(
If you use a domain account with a roaming profile, can you delete
the profile and see if that helps? As an alternative: if you
create a fresh account with admin rights, does this have the same
issues?

I 've created a new account with administrators rights but this is not the
solution.

Still the most weird issue is that if I logon with a terminal server session
and I use the administrator account on the server itself their are no
problems.

In some of the event viewers I've noticed warnings referrering to the DNS
services and also to FRS service.
I'm going to examine search out what the cause is that these messages
appear.
