How would one using W2K server and RRAS take any data on an external
internet IP on one NIC and forward the data to and internal non-routable IP
on another NIC in the same box? I would like to be able to access our
Exchange Server from outside of our office using this method. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jay.

I am not sure if you're saying that you want to access your exchange server
that resides on the server but listens only on the internal NIC or if you
want
to access an exchange server that resides on another host on your LAN.

If the mail server is not on the gateway server you could just set up NAT to
forward incoming connection to the required ports to the exchange server's
IP address.

If the mail server runs atop the gateway you could just allow it to listen
on the external NIC. Just be sure to set it properly or you're going to
either
allow an easy relay server for idiots or deny services to everyone,
including
legitimate users.

The exchange server is on a different server on the local lan. Yes, I could
set up NAT but Exchange uses various random ports so everything would have
to be forwarded.

How about using SMTP and POP3?
that would require just two ports.

Also consider that you only need to translate one port to allow the initial
inbound
connections reach the server, when the following connections take place
they're gonna have an internal source so they'll get translated by the NAT.
