Hi,

Im trying with no great success to setup RRAS VPN on Advanced server behind
a Linksys Cable Router.

Everything seemed fine, manual config due to 1 NIC in server.

Can even connect and autheticate great, problem is not a single byte of data
passes as it should. Im connected, but cant even ping the server im
connected too :/

I'm aware that some of these routers can only support VPN clients outbound
and not a VPN server, but linksys documents dont say which and technial
support of course say they dont support VPN.

Anyone have any suggestions, or have done similar/same with success.

Many thanks,
Allen.

I have a very similar setup here - Linksys 4P cable router behind a cable
modem, connected to an RRAS server running w2k Adv Serv.

I got VPN to work (internally on LAN and externally over internet) only
after I placed my server in the routers DMZ.

I started by trying to open and redirect specific ports in the router
firewall, but was stymied. So I put it in the DMZ and it worked first try.

At some point I will try going back and opening other ports (inbound) to
increase my network security. I am gathering info using packet sniffers to
get the port stuff.

My clients are w2K Prof and W98.
