I'm posting for a friend. She's running Windows 2000 and wants to
install an HP printer.

When she tries Add New Printer she gets an error 'cannot continue due to
lack of resources. The print subsystem is unavailable.'

Tried to start the Print Spooler. It restarts, but it just stops as
soon as she tries to add a new printer.

Had a hunt around on Google and it seems to have something to do with
the Lexbce Server service, which is running. The Print Spooler has that
as a Dependency.

I did find various suggestions on Google, but I'm not sure what to do in
my specific case.

Can anyone help me?
Thanks.

an issue well known. If your friend no longer has the Lexmark printer,
download the uninstall utility for the printer (model specific so if you
don't know the model go straight to the other links) to clean up the extra
setup functions that were performed outside of the spooler service.

A question: the LexBCE server *is* actually running. I understood that
the spooler error I have usually happens when a print spooler is
dependent on the LexBCE server but that was *not* working. Is that
correct?

Typically that is the case.

Is the Lexmark printer still installed? If the printer is gone make sure
all the Lexmark software is also removed.

I have 2 Lexmark printer hooked up and neither of them work. My spooler is
off and won't turn on. The LexBce says it has lost it's path. I've followed
endlist direction from microsoft and gateway but none of them work. If you
here of a solution, please let me know, I will do the same for you.
