We are running Windows 2000 Servers with SP1 and Active Directory. We are
getting a log full of event id 8032: The browser service has failed to
retrieve
the backup list too many times on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_... The
backup
browser is stopping. We are getting this message on all our 2000 servers.
We
are also getting event id 8021. Does anybody have any suggestions or
reasons why
this is happening and what this effects on our network. Thanks.

Sam

also it looks like maybe the subnet mask is set wrong for one or more
servers:

Thanks for the reply. I've already looked at both articles you mention. We have
File and Print enabled on all servers and also we have the correct subnet on all
our servers. So I'm not sure what else to look at.

Is your PDC having two NICs or 1 NIC and RAS installed?

Well here is your problem.....and mine.

I get the same problem and basically by reading and searching and testing i
figured out that the WAN interface (PPP/SLIP) is causing this problem
messing with WINS and DNS.

From there i'm trying to figure out a way to install VPN without having the
system to create an interface for itself and have it using the hardware NIC
instead...

I'm surprised that so few people are having the same problem.....

I tried something but i wonder if i'm in the right way...

i disabled RAS and went through the wizard to reconfigure it using only the
3rd option (VPN) instead of default. It seems that the RAS interface is not
created but for some reasons it breaks my network configuration and i'm
unable to reach the rest of the world when RAS is started....

I did not have the time to troubleshoot it yet....
