Small LAN VPN Access

Hello:

I am trying to deploy a VPN server on a small LAN using
Win 2k Server. The LAN uses a DSL connection with a Cisco
678. I have several questions that I would appreciate
assistance with.

1.) Do you typically have to specifically configure
hardware like the 678 to accept and pass VPN connections
along to the server?

2.) Using routing and remote access, I have configured the
server as a VPN stand-alone step-by-step according to the
Windows help file and the Microsoft web cast dated
November 9, 2000. When I try to connect from a remote
client running Win 2k Pro, it says that there is no
response from the server (this is what lead me to the
question about the 678), however, when I configure a VPN
connection from inside the LAN and try to connect to the
same IP address, it connects, tries to authenticate and
then gives error 675. What might cause this type of Auth
error?

I am a real newb at this so I apologize for sounding like
a moron. I appreciate any assistance you might provide.
