DirectX 7.0a support in Win2K?

I'm trying to install some drivers which require DirectX 7.0a, and they
refuse to install on Win2K final release (2195). According to the MS
DirectX 7.0a download site
(http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/default.asp), 7.0a is
already included in Win2K. The patch from 7.0 to 7.0a works only with
Win9x. Anybody know if or when 7.0a will be supported in 2000?

Thanks,
Bartley

First, posting to multiple newsgroups accomplishes little. According to
MS's DirectX site, Win2000 Pro already includes DX7a.

Which drivers are you trying to install that require DX7a?

If it's a game that's trying to be installed, check out
http://www.ntcompatible.cjb.net/ for info on compatable games.

What kind of drivers? I think it's the NT kernel the drivers have problems
with, not the DirectX version... The version of DirectX in 2000 is
comparable to DX 7.0a (but not identical, as the kernels are different and
so on).

I'm trying to install Saitek X36 controller drivers. The installation
program checks for DX 7.0a and will not install without it. If I knew what
exactly the installation program was looking at to determine the DirectX
version, then it might be possible to change that setting. I've tried
changing the value of registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DirectX\Version
to 04.07.00.0716, which is the value from Win98 with 7.0a installed, but
that did not help. The DirectX site states that 7.0a "will be supported by
Win2K when it is released" which means that this was written before Win2K
was released and therefore may not be accurate. I think that Win2K probably
does support the features of 7.0a, but why is it not telling the software?

Secondly, I disagree with you about crossposting. Perhaps you read all of
the newsgroups, but I don't and I doubt that most people do. By posting to
different groups, you increase the odds of somebody seeing your post who
knows something about your problem.

Thanks,
Bartley

Bartley,

DirectX 7.0 is installed on my System (build 2195). But I had to install the
newest driver for my TNT2-Card (www.nvidia.com) to use Direct3D. The TNT2
Drivers on the W2K CD does'nt support Direct3D.

A little harsh- he only posted to 3 groups and they were all appropriate for
the question.
