"Windows cannot open the local policy database.
The database is corrupt. For information about fixing the
database, see online help."
Unfortunately the online help, didn't help and the
Knowledgebase didn't have any references.
Does anyone have an idea on how to correct this?
1. Open the \%SystemRoot%\Security folder. Create a new folder in it called
OldSecurity.
2. Move all of the files ending in .log in the \%SystemRoot%\Security folder
to the
Old Security folder.
3. Find the file secedit.sdb in the \%SystemRoot%\Security\Database folder.
Rename
this file to secedit.old.
4. Open a new MMC window by executing Start\Run\MMC and clicking OK.
5. Click Console\Add/Remove Snap-in and add the Security and Configuration
snap-in.
6. Right-click Security and Configuration and Analysis and choose Open
Database.
7. Browse to the \%SystemRoot%\Security\Database folder and then type
Secedit.sdb
in the File name field and click Open.
8. When prompted to import a template, choose Setup security.inf and choose
Open.
(Don't worry if you get an Access Denied error.)
9. Right-click Security and Configuration and Analysis again and choose
Configure
Computer Now.
I hope this is helpful.
