I'm having an odd problem where the cpu is being
constantly maxed or nearly so - looks like 30-80% average,
up and down - which task manager shows to be the winlogon
service.

I'm on a small peer-to-peer network (2 Win2000 Pro, 1
Win2000 Adv. Server) behind a cable-modem router w/ basic
firewalling .. using an internal DHCP IP address.

Any thoughts on the matter?? The server is a standalone -
not domain controller, and the prob on the workstation
seems to have started when I freshly installed the
server. I do have some shares on each system, but have
tried taking them off, tried putting the systems in
different work groups, tried giving everyone admin rights,
etc.

I'm having a horrible time, hard to do work when your
mouse won't work for a second or two every 10 seconds or
so, as the CPU is peaked!!

Please email me, too, if you have ANY thoughts on how to
solve it!!

Thanks,
Tom

Hi all, i think that i have my problem resolved.
I have found a virus in my server "w32/elkern.c" this
virus infecte the *.exe files, and I think thats the
problem that affect the winlogon.exe.
My system is running fine now.
Try check with pqremove.com from panda.
