I remember I used to get this error a while back. The way I fixed it then
was to copy (that's copy, NOT move) gapi32.dll from

C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\

to

C:\WINNT\system32\

That is, to the same folder that mapisrvr.exe is in.

I don't know if this is a Norton error or a true functionality error. In any
case, currently I have gapi32.dll in only one place (C:\Program Files\Common
Files\System\Mapi\1033\) and the error is not reported by Norton. (Setup:
Norton Utilities 2002 and Windows 2000 SP2).

Another method, instead of copying is to add the following path to your
system path variable: C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\
This way, if an Office update changes this file, you won't forget to copy
the new version to the system32 folder - remember if the file is found in
multiple places, it will be executed from the shortcuts current directory,
then the system32 and system directories/folders respectively - and most of
the time, you execute the Office products from files located in the "My
Documents" folder, resulting in the version found in system32 or system to
be executed - if it exists there.

windows doctor on WIN2K.

COPYING gapi32.dll from

C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\
to
C:\WINNT\system32\

Hi,

I experienced the same error with gapi32.dll. To find out why this error
appears, I reinstalled Win2k on specially created partition for this purpose
and each time after I installed an application I checked with the Norton
Utilities 2001 if the error appears. Finally I found out that it happens
after installation of SP2 updates on MS Office2000. I "fixed" it by copying
gapi32.dll to the catalogue Winnt/system32. It could be also fixed by
setting the path to the gapi32.dll file in the system environment box. I
thought it was the way to "fix" it till the time I had to clean reinstall OS
for once again. I was surprised that after reinstallation of the same
programmes on my machine (may be not in the same order) the "gapi32.dll
error" didn't appear! Now I am running Win2k without having to fix the
"gapi32.dll error". I am completly lost as I don't know what to think about
this.

Regards,

Ryszard
