Will it upgrade my pre-release final version (build 2195) to the full
release version?

NO IT WILL NOT!!!!
I got sucked into this trap, and wound up buying the upgrade AND the full
versions. The full version will upgrade RC3 flawlessly.

Wrong. YES it will. It will do it perfectly. Search microsoft.com, there's
some patch for that so that it will upgrade....

Ian Fette is aboslutely right, and I stand corrected. The patch is
available at http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/news/bulletins/eval.asp.
Apparently, it
will allow the upgrade CD to upgrade RC3 to final code. This patch was not
available when I made the upgrade. In fact, I spent nearly a whole day on
the phone with Microsoft listening to how they didn't know anything about
this problem and how they couldn't really help me. I was led to believe
that I was one of a very small number of people who had this problem. I was
finally told that buying the full version was my only option other than a
clean install or an upgrade of Win 98. No one mentioned that this patch was
in the works. Kinda sucks, as I had to pay for both the upgrade and the
full versions.

I followed the directions and downloaded the patch. Whne the download was
complete, a window flashed open momentarily and then nothing else happened.

Any clues?

I could swear I read somewhere last night that the 'Upgrade edition" would
NOT upgrade a pre-release version. But I can't find it this morning. Was
this an outdated page that I read? It did come from Microsoft.

Now when you put the upgrade CD in it will ask you for a qualifying OS's
upgrade CD. I used my Windows 98 CD to upgrade the Eval version to the
full version.

Turn off autorun, though, because it gets confusing with Win98 setup
trying to run at the same time as W2K setup!

I don't know the answer to the first - it's the CD they're giving away:
the 120 day evaluation version. My current version is Build 2195.

If you are trying to upgrade using the Standard (non-upgrade) Windows 2000
CD, you do not need this download. You can successfully upgrade the
Evaluation Edition with a Standard Windows 2000 CD.

What is those mean?

ok let say I have the Evaluation Win2k Server with 120 days time limit I
want to make it Final code so there will be not time limit
I download the PAtch nothing works.......

Thanx for advice

I'm also running 2195 but have never been confident that it's the real,
no-kidding, drop dead, this is it, final retail version.

I am running build 2195, too, and I am sure that it is the final
retail version as I paid real bucks for it.

I've paid real bucks for mine also, via an upgrade when I purchased my
computer.

The reason I lack confidence in it being the "real deal" is because of posts
to this newsgroup to the contrary.

Thanks.
