'msmsgs.exe' fails at startup. what is this and how can i fix.

im informed via message 'msmsgs.exe has generated errors and is being closed
by windows' or some such thing. it started happening after i installed some
new software, naturally. i think after the new msn messenger service but not
sure since i was playing with a few things. any ideas what i need to do to
rectify.

yes, that's the MSN Messenger Service.
try uninstalling it, removing the registry entries (be careful!), rebooting,
then installing the latest version.
