hi all.

When using an upgrade version of MS server installation cdrom, whether it be
NT4, SQL6 or 7, Windows2000... , does the machine that you are installing
(upgrading) onto requires it to be installed with prior version already?

Or can I install from scratch (after format or to a brand new machine) as
long as I have the previous version of server installation cdrom?

I ask because I know that installing from scratch is more stable than a
literal upgrade of a server. I wish to upgrade SQL6, NT3.51 machine to
SQL7, W2000 but I want to install from scratch. And purchasing the upgrade
version of the corresponding servers is obvously cheaper.

Thanks!

koya

How about with NT3.51, NT4 or W2000 servers?
When using upgrade version cdrom, does the machine require to already been
installed with prior version?

The upgrade will check for the presence of the previous install. If you
have the qualifying CD however, you should be fine.
