Hi
I have a DI-704P. connected to the Wan I have a Cable Modem. On the lan side
I have a Dell XPS 350 running win 2K with a 10/100 NIC card. I also have a
cable connected to the uplink port of a 10/100 Switch. coming out of the
Switch I have 4 cables going to other computers They all have 10/100 NIC
cards. I am running Cat 5 wire. Everyone uses DHCP to get a IP from the
router which assigns a fixed IP to Mac address. The Network addresses all
begin 192.168.0.XXX.
The 4 computers on the Downlink side of the Switch are running Win 2K
server, Win 2K, XP and Win 98.
As you might have guested this is a home training enviorment for me.
All of the Local area network connection Icons in the Sys tray report a
connection speed of 100M. I can't seem to transfer any faster that about 4-6
MBPS no mater which computer I transfer from or to.
I have replaced the Switch with a D-link DSS5+ auto Switch and it does not
seem to make a difference. Is there any settings in the router that can
limit traffic? Do you have any other ideas of wht it could be?

Try disabling autosensing on the NICs and see if you can force them to
connect at 100Mb.

You more likely have a choke point in another subsystem, such as disk writes.
If you review network performance charts on comparison tests (e.g., PC-Magazine
server tests), you'll probably find that throughput does not approach anywhere
near 100 Mbps in a small network, especially to/from a single
workstation/client.

I normally get 4-6 Mbps average, with peaks around 8 Mbps on my system.
