(very) newbie question about setup

Hi.

I've installed the IIS component into Windows 2000 on my father's home PC so
that I can teach myself how to make a web based database. However,
- the main screen in IIS tells me that I cannot access the homepage because
'Default Document' is off, and I don't know what this means, and
- when I try to access its help file, the computer tells me that I can't
because the server is 'off'. The computer is actually stand-alone - I've
only installed IIS to test my future ASP efforts.

I have no clue as to how to set this up or to the whereabouts of the
manuals. If any kind person out there could help a newbie it would be much
appreciated.
