I installed NT 4.0(standalone, not PDC, BDC), NT Service Pack 6a, Service
Pack Option4 with IIS 4.0(after installing it, I installed NT SP6a again) on
my PC.

Each time when i try to connect Web Server of this PC, I was prompted to
connect networking using modem. How can I brower webpages on this Web Server
without getting this prompt, just like Personal Web Server on Windows 98.

Thanks in advance!

Norman

Install "loopback" adapter to access your local system via TCP/IP.

Hi Thomas,
I had this problem earlier, and when I started asking people about acquiring a "loopback adapter" nobody knew what I was talking about.
I ended up getting a little hub for my testing environment, & that solved my problem, but what IS a loopback adapter?
Thanx,
Sara

You add it manually in Device Manager or going to Add/Remove Hardware in Control Panel.
It is a "virtual" networking device specifically for testing/configuring networking on a system that is not physically connected to a network.
When you try to send data with a networking protocol, you will only get error messages in the absence of a return signal showing connection enabled. The "loopback" generates a connection signal automatically so that you can "ping" local access.
