I have installed IIS from the Windows 2000 CD but it will not start.
1. In the personal webmanager it says "Web publishing is on. Homepage not
available because "Default Document" is off. Strange because default
document is on indeed.
2. When I check the event viewer, I have following entries: The World Wide
Web Publishing Service/SMTP/FTP service terminated with the following error:
The authentication service is unknown.
All I want is to try out some ASP programming on my computer but cannot
until I fix this :(

This problem did not occour on my machine before I installed MS Office 2000
SR 1 on my MS Win 2000 machine though. Before that my ASP pages worked like
clockwork (maybe I should uninstall the service release ?). (my html pages
still work, but all my asp files don't, I simply get error message 500 -
Internal server error)
I have gone through the web settings a 100 times by now, and there are
nothing wrong with my settings (not that I can see anyway.)
At least on my other machine the Win NT 4, service pack 6 fixed more things
than it broke. I can now access SQL Server 7 via ODBC, and the MS Office
2000 component chart doesn't come up with "Cannot load international DLL"
anymore.
Maybe if I low formated the entire Win 2000 notebook, and installed
everything again, the web pages would start working again....
Anyone out there managed to fix the web server without having to format the
entire drive ?
anyway, I guess I have to wait for the next service update.....
