Does anyone know how to get the icons back on the Windows 98 desktop, or
where I might go to get an answer. My grandson's (adult) have just
disappeared. I have searched through all books I have and cannot even find a
tech support for Windows. Thank you,

You should be able to right click on the desktop and go to settings. And
then choose what Icons you want for the Win98 "My Computer", "Recycle Bin",
etc.

If they were icons for programs then chances are that they were "magically
deleted" by your grandson. LoL. They can be restored by finding the
program on your computer (usually in C:\Program Files\) and right clicking
on the .exe file that starts it. Then click Create Shortcut. Now drag this
new shortcut to your desktop. You can also rename the shortcut to whatever
you want.
Last, I anticipate that they probably really did just disappear. I remember
seeing something related on Regedit.com.
