I am attempting to incorporate server side includes into my htm and html
files under IIS 5.0. The problem is that once I create the extensions,
under application configuration, I get a challenge for a user name and
password when viewing the web site. Once the extensions are removed, I can
then view the site sans the includes. I checked the permissions settings,
etc., and can not find the reason for the challenge. Any ideas??

You say you checked the permissions settings but you didn't indicate on what.

For instance, did you check the permissions on the DLL that does SSI processing
(ssinc.dll)?

You also indicate that you get challenged but you didn't indicate whether a
valid username and password will work. If not, then I suspect you may be
