I think I have the same problem as you (my german isn't too good though).
I upgraded my WinNT (sp6a) installation to Windows 2000 (final).
If I go into Local Security Policy, and try and look at Account Policies or
Local Policies, I get:
"Windows cannot open the local policy database.
An unknown error occured when attempting to open the database."
I checked the Event viewer, and it looks like the policy database file is
corrupt. I have messages like:
services (208) Database recovery/restore failed with unexpected error -1022.
services (208) Unexpected NT API error: 0xC000000D
and I tried adding a new group (I can still add users and groups, I can't
set any
security settings for them though)... but this showed up in the event log:
Policy change from LSA/SAM can't be saved in the policy storage. Error 1208
to save policy change in the local GPO database.
The help says this may be due to a DNS problem, but I don't seem to have
trouble
seeing the network. The only strange thing I can think of is that I renamed
my
"Administrator" account before doing the upgrade. I've renamed it back, but
that
didn't help.
Any luck at your end? Anybody know how to recover/reset the policy
database?
