Hi all sorry bout the crossposting but I'm pretty desperate on this.

I'm trying to install win2k prof. on my system that formerly ran win98se2.
My mobo is Abit Be6 (with bios version TH) and the harddisk is an IBM DJNA
371800.

I start the install with the harddisk as primary master and everything is
just handy dandy, during the initial stages of the install I press F6 to
install a third party Mass Storage Controller (this is for the HPT366
onboard chip), and then later on I press "S" twice so win2k can load the
drivers (I'm using 1.25) for the controller. Everything is just fine and the
rest of the install runs flawless. But I would like to run my harddisk in
UDMA66 mode, so I turn everything off and switch the harddisk over on the
IDE3 port which has the UDMA66 interface, then when I'm trying to boot in
this setup I get this error message:

Ntldr is missing
Any key to restart

I've heard that it has something to do with the boot.ini file where its
possible to specify where Windows should look for the boot information, but
I really dont know how to modify this file correctly. I'm not sure, but I
think it has something do with that it is necessary to specify that Windows
now has to boot from a-non IDE device...
Could somebody plz explain this carefully to me???

My system is a follows:

P3 450
128 SDRAM
IBM DJNA 371800
Abit Be6 with TH bios
SbLive (in PCI no. 1 counting from the agp port)
D-link 530tx NIC (in PCI no. 2 counting from the agp port)
Asus v6600 Agp geforce deluxe

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

try installing win2k with the HD on ide3 from the start, not switching it
over after.
installing the HPT driver (good, you know to install it 2x) during
win2k install allows this to work.

Make sure you press F6 Immediatly when Windows 2k begins to load the install
info. You will see a screen saying something about "setup is checking your
system information...." hit the F6 key (a couple times for good measure).
Then it will ask you to load your HPT drivers a little sooner in the setup
process than usual, and it will work. Sorry, but you have to reload
Win2K -- its happened to many of us.
Also, make sure that the Win2K drivers are in the root directory of your
floppy. Setup is not smart enough to look thru subdirectories to find the
proper drivers, and it just loads the first one it sees.
