Win2000 and @home

I've posted this question on another forum but I believe this one might be
more appropriate. Sorry for cross posting.

I did a clean install of Win2000. Everything went well. Network card
detected, device also reports that it's working fine. Protocols installed.
Yet I can't connect to the @home Internet system.
Although my IP is dynamically assigned. The only difference I can see from
the Win98 installation that works fine. Is the fact that if I PING myself I
have a 169.xxx address instead of the usual 24.xxx.xx I get when I connect
using Win98.

Could someone please shed some light.

Check to be sure that the DNS info is correct (i.e. system name, domain
name, DNS server addresses)

The DNS is Disabled.

Doesn't that seem like aproblem to you?
I can't use the network if I disable DNS...
