Hello All

does someone know what the "c:\win2000\system32\config\*.*" files are
there for ?

yesterday, at startup, my computer (win2000 professional) crashed
(memory dump) saying that the "software" file (no extension) in that
folder was corrupted...

I replaced it by a version of that file from another computer... all the
software environment was destroyed and reset to nothing...

what are those files, how to manage them ???

thanks a lot for your help

There are several files.
For example, the *.evt are the system event logs.
If your system crashed, chances are that the system hive
was corrupt.
Renaming system.alt to system could solve your problem,
but using the ERD should allways be the first option.
