I'm attempting to run Analyze.exe in -f repair mode on our
data. It is returning to me the message
"File f:\vss\data\status.dat is already open
Cannot rebuild the database while Visual SourceSafe is
being run. Make sure all users have exited SourceSafe and
try again."

According to the VSS Admin, no one else is on. All users
are locked out of the database, and I can't delete/rename
the status.dat file - I get sharing errors because it is
still open.

We are running V6c <latest service pack>, and we have been
able to successfully run in this manner before.

Any ideas?

most likely, some process (client) exited or stopped ungracefully, leaving
the file handle open.

You could force it closed with a tool like netwatch, from the nt resource
kit (assuming it's opened via the network path), or deleting and recreating
the network share.

Or as long as nobody's connected, you could always just reboot the server.

You could also use the Management Console to check the file state. From the
server: My Computer / Manage / Shared Folders / Open Files.
