Hello,

I have a Windows Server 2003 x64 where my VSS Database is located. I
have anover delevopement environment on a Windows 2008 x64 machine. If I
start a project which is in my VSS environment the following error is
displayed "Unable to use SourceSafe LAN service, performance of
SourceSafe operations will not be optimal". This service is only running
on my 2003 machine. How can I solve this problem?

regards

Peter

Is the SourceSafe LAN service installed and running? The ssadmin tool has a
Server, Configure menu that can enable it.

I get the following message: " The server configutration settings apply
only for local databases. To configure the server for this database you
will need to run Visual SourceSafe Admin program on the machine hosting
the database". So i cannot install the Lan service on this machine :(
What should i do now?

If the 2003 system has the database and you are connecting to the 2003
system database from your 2008 machine, the service is supposed to be
running on the 2003 machine. If the service *is* running on the 2003
system, it could be blocked by a firewall. Using the service is optional
and if the machines are on the same LAN you won't notice a huge improvement
in performance unless you have projects with large numbers of files.
