My PC crashed when I was using Visual Studio J++. I had copied an
ActionListener method from one part of the code to another, edited it
and compiled it. The PC crashed during the next execution of the code.
(I had had a crash, about a week or so before the latest crash, that
scandisk reported about 160k bytes...)
After the latest crash I now get the error message 'Unable to load
development environment DLL' when I try to run VS J++. I once got the
error message 'Devenv caused page fault'. Devenv.exe launches VS J++.
Msenv.dll and Msenvp.dll are in the same folder as Devenv.exe. They
application's files are in the application's default folders.
I un-installed VS J++ and re-installed it a few times without being able
to run it. Since, during installation, it indicated about a hundred
registry problems (unless it was reporting some more than once) I
reloaded Windows 95. I got the same error message.
I was reluctant to deltree C:Windows or C: I installed Windows 98 ver B
over Windows 95. It fixed all the registry problems. I have added
Devenv.exe's path to Autoexec.bat and added a key to the registry for
the path and file name, but I still cannot get VS J++ to run.
I have searched newsgroups and used search engines. Apart from one as
yet unknown non-English language reference, that I am trying to get
translated, I have not been unable to shed any light on the problem.
What should I do now?
I would appreciate any help.
Many thanks.

So you've uninstalled and reinstalled VJ++, along with your Operating
System. Are you still receiving the error "Unable to load development
environment DLL" when launching VJ++? If so, the Microsoft Knowledge Base
has an article in direct reference to this. Although it is noted for
Visual Interdev, this should apply to VJ++ as well.
If your issue is still the same as you described, the following
information should fix your problem. You can get these instructions by
following the link, or go to the Microsoft Support Website
(http://support.microsoft.com) and search for your exact error message.

Excellent advice.
I followed your suggestions and tried to run J++ again.
I got an invalid page fault error message. I used your method again to
find out about the this message and was advised to delete all copies of
Views.prf. I did this and deleted two copies.
J++ ran but without its menu bar. I reinstalled J++ and re-booted the
PC.
The application is working fine and ran the project, in which the PC had
crashed, without any problems.
Thank you for your help it is very much appreciated.
