VS.NET needed different version component, but component
won't install properly.

Hi, I have a problem regarding VS.NET (2002).

First when I poped in the first CD, I says I needed to
install some addition component, so it asked me to put in
the Prerequsite CD. I complied, and it attempted to
install MS-Frontpage 2000 web extensions client. This is
where it failed.

I saw a suggestion here suggesting to install it manually
by going to the FrontPageServer directory, I did so, but I
gave me this error message halfway throught the
installation.

" This version of Microsoft FrontPage 2000 Server
Extensions setup can not install onto MS windows 2000 or
later systems. "

I am running XP pro.

I really hope you guys can help, as i really need to have
it running asap...

Thanks a lot guys.
You could reply to my email too!

Hi Jeremy,

Unfortunately the documentation is a little confusing on this point. The
FrontPageServer folder actually contains the setup for the FrontPage Server
Extensions, which are only needed on NT4 for Visual Studio .NET 2002. Can
you please try to right-click on weccom.msi on the root of your Visual
Studio .NET Windows Component Update CD and try to install from there.

The following information may help you work around this issue also (this is
in the readme for VS .NET 2003 but didn't make it into the VS 2002 readme):

A typical installation of Visual Studio .NET 2003 installs FrontPage 2000
Web Client Extensions from the Visual Studio .NET 2003 Prerequisites CD. In
some instances, installation of FrontPage 2000 Web Client Extensions may
fail. Consequently, you might need to install FrontPage 2000 Web Client
Extensions directly.

To resolve this issue

Insert the Visual Studio .NET 2003 Prerequisites CD.
On the Windows Start menu, click Run, and type [CD Drive]:\weccom.msi
Follow the directions in the FrontPage 2000 Web Client Extensions setup
dialog box.

On Windows XP Home Edition:

Setup may prompt for the Windows XP Professional Edition CD. Insert either
the Windows XP Home Edition or the Windows XP Professional Edition CD.

On Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional Edition with Service
Pack 1 installed:

Setup may prompt for the Windows XP SP1 CD. Insert the Windows XP Operating
System CD rather than the SP1 CD when prompted for operating system source
media.

Note For an OEM version of the operating system, copy files from the
installation CD to a local destination:
Copy Fp4autl.dll, Fpencode.dll, and Fp4awel.dll from \i386\Fp40ext.cab.
To [Local drive]:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server
Extensions\40\bin.

thanks for the prompt reply.

I forgot in write...
I did that too, but trying to install the file weccom on
the roon of the component CD. But unfortunatly, it gave me
another error message.
"Error 1321. The installer has insufficient privileges to
modify this file: C:\Config.Msi\312f317.rbf"

I restarted my computer and tried to install it again, but
again the same thing happened, but this time, the file
312f317.rbf was another file...

If i really need to run this vs.net on this computer, what
should i do next?

Thanks!
I am running win xp pro SP1.

Do you have a folder named "c:\config.msi" on this machine (make sure to
check for hidden folders also)? If so does it have any strange ACL's that
deny permissions to modify or add files to the system account?

If you have successfully installed the other components in Windows
Component Update, you can try the following:

1. Insert your VS .NET 2002 CD1
2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the Setup directory
3. Run setup.exe from the Setup directory as follows: setup.exe
NO_BSLN_CHECK

This will skip the check that verifies that weccom is on your machine.
Note that if you do this you will have some problems trying to do web
application development using localhost as your web server. Developing web
apps using a remote web server should work fine though.

Hope this helps....
