Lots of VSS data files disappeared. Is this common?

Overnight a ton of our VSS database files disappeared. Directories m-z
and all the .dat files in the data directory as well as srcsafe.ini
and users.txt just vanished. The day before we enabled keyword
expansion. We're bringing back a backup from tape but I'm just
wondering - does this sound like a typical VSS problem or is it more
likely that something else clobbered the files on the server.

We recently switched from MKSSI to VSS and we'll go right back if this
is what life with VSS is like.

I'd say something else clobbered the files on the server. Haven't
heard of that or anything close to it happening before.
