hi all,

I tried to install a VSS(microsoft Visual SourceSafe) so we can do
version control between programmers. I have a VSS installed in my
machine, it came with my VC++ 6.0 Enterprise Edition.

What I did is to copy the whole VSS directory (under my machine
C:\documents and settings\all users\Start Menu\programs) to our share
driver, and add users from the VSS administrator 6.0. Then I add a project
to VSS 6.0.

But when I went to another machine and opened the VSS6.0 from
share driver, the project wasn't there, I can only see the project from my
machine. And if I started the VSS administrator from share driver, I could
not see the users which been added from other mahine too.

Any one has ideas? I really need to start our work. I am very new in
microsoft VC++, just be transferred from unix.

Thanks

You need to open the database on the server. VSS is probably still
looking at the original location. File, Open Database, then browse to
the srcsafe.ini file on the network. You also might want to read the
following KB article about moving databases:

If I were you I wouldn't put your source safe directory into c:\documents
and settings\... area. Mostly because SS becomes a pain when you start
checking files in and out of it, mostly becuz when other people check out
your files, they may not be checking them out into the same check out
directory that you use, this can cause weird file not found and error
loading project errors. This will especially apply if you have lots of
project folders in sourcesafe. Try to make the directory structure as simple
as possible.
