I am using SourceSafe V6 (Build 8169) and I urgendly need the history
of deleted files.
If a ask SS
# SS HISTORY $/.../file -YUser
i got
$/.../file was deleted.
I can recover that file, then I can successfully ask for the history
and finally I have to delete it again.
That's a way to get the history. Unfortunately due to this I change
the repository.
Of course thats not my desire.
Is there a way to get the history of a deleted file without recover
it?
Thanks a lot in advance
This is not a perfect solution either, but if you take the project that contains the deleted file, and share a historical version from before the file was deleted to another temporary project, then you can look at the history in the shared project and delete it when you're done. This still requires changing the database, but not in the actual project you're looking at but somewhere else in the directory tree. Also, this prevents adding a "recovered" and "deleted" event to the history of the original project from recovering, viewing the history, and then deleting the file.
