Can't install Visual SourceSafe 2005

When trying to install Visual SourceSafe 2005 (freshly downloaded from the
MSDN Subscriptions page) on my Toshiba laptop running the Windows 7 Ultimate
Release Candidate (64-bit) I get the errors reporting in the (partial)
logfile included below.
I also attempted the same on a Vista Home Edition (32-bit) with the same
result.
Can anybody help me out here?
Note that I have not yet installed Visual Studio 2005 or 2008 on this machine.
